Wilson Krismis
Wilson Krismis, affectionately known to everyone at Vuyani as Oupa Krismis, was a steady and trusted presence in the daily life of the organisation. He dedicated himself to the safe transport of children to school, appointments and activities, and played an important role in maintaining Vuyani’s homes and facilities. Wherever help was needed, he could be relied upon to step in without hesitation.
Krismis joined the Vuyani family in 2014. Oupa Krismis was a stable and trustworthy father figure to many of our children. He mentored the boys in our Independent Living program and taught them many valuable skills.
Oupa Krismis loved taking the children on outings and picnics in the veld. He strongly advocated for vulnerable children and had a very special and unique way in which he responded to children with behavioural difficulties. Oupa Krismis was known for his practical wisdom, calm presence and his unmistakable “let’s get it done” attitude. He approached every task with commitment and humility, never seeking recognition, but always ensuring that things were done properly and on time. His reliability and willingness to serve made him a deeply valued part of the Vuyani team.
In August 2025, he joined the Vuyani Board, where he continued to contribute with the same dedication that had defined his years of service. He offered thoughtful input, shared his experience, and supported the ongoing work of caring for vulnerable children with genuine passion and insight.
Oupa Krismis influence extended far beyond his formal duties. His consistency, kindness and strong work ethic set an example for staff and children alike, reminding everyone of the importance of responsibility, service and care for others.
Oupa Krismis passed away in June 2026. He will always remain an important part of the Vuyani family, and his legacy lives on in the systems he strengthened, the children he supported and the spirit of service he embodied every day.
